Aims
The aim of this thesis is to develop an understanding of the stress phenomena in domes of different geometry. The project will compile a database of LEASH results, for initially spherical domes. The results will be used to identify:
Secondary aim
If time permits, I shall develop my analysis to consider elliptical or parabolic domes. Again using the software to analyse and answer the questions above. It will allow for comparison to spherical dome results and contribute to the architectural aspect of this thesis.
- If there is an optimal shape.
- The influences of geometry on the stresses in a structure.
- The stresses and bending moments that develop in such structures and if they can be accommodated for without comprising the thickness.
